Sandra Janet Carl
decided one day to find out if the talent she had discovered in her early school years in her native Tegucigalpa was still in her, so she enrolled in an art academy. She not only reclaimed it, but embraced painting with such strength, that in only two years, in the "golden era" of her life, has completed a 50 piece collection, making a childhood dream come true.

Once she fulfilled the first stage of her new passion, she decided to take it to the next level: to share her work.  With the selfless help from some friends, tutors and teachers, she set about to plan her first individual exhibition, "Arte al Fresco", which was held in September 2019. Most of the proceeds -80%- were donated to a non-profit animal refuge in Mallorca. Then Sandra held her second exhibit at the Medical Office of Dr. Eva Marie Hieber, in Llucmajor in December 2019 and her third exhibit in February 2020 at the Palma Clinic, where she showcased twenty of her works.

There are about 50 art pieces in the collection, composed of pencil drawings, charcoals, oils and acrylic paintings. Sandra J. Carl has been quite prolific in two years, attending painting classes twice a week at the Academia Renacimiento in Palma, where she has profited much from the guiding hand of her teacher and director of the school, Monica Gutierrez.

Sandra J. Carl (www.sandrajcarl.com) premiered a new exhibit in March 2020, "Inspiratio", at Distinto Concept Store in Palma. The showcase will be open on appointment and the entrance is free. She then exthibited this collection from 9 December 2021 to 20 January 2021 at Restaurante S'Estatua en Llucmajor, as part of a fundraising activity organiced to help victims of hurricanes Iote and Eta in Honduras. This was her fifth exhibit.

The painter, born and raised in Honduras of German/Scottish parents, speaks of herself as a "beginner" and shares her collection in an exhibit for the very first time. "Painting arrived ‘latish’ to me in life, but has become my passion", she says. "Painting, consoles me, gives me peace, it has become a way to communicate with myself, expressing my feelings, my longings", she explains. "When I am painting, I delve deep into the creative world, in a ‘chromatic’ meditation, she adds.

"I am happy with what I have achieved and I am so grateful to friends for their support and encouragement, especially with the fact that I was be able to donate 80% of the proceeds to an animal shelter", she comments. "Animals give us so much love, but they are unable to speak out for themselves and I myself have 4 cats and 2 dogs rescued from an animal shelter" she concludes. This is her way of contributing her grain of salt to aiding needy animals.

Sandra J. Carl is currently working on a new water color collection and plans to celebrate her 73rd birthday with a new exhibit in Palma this year.

It is never too late to embrace a new passion.

The events are organized by Exposia exhibit management.
